Salem, ORDescription
Our 4th Annual Bleeding Disorders Awareness Day at the Capitol actually begins with a 5:00 PM dinner and training the night before on Sunday February 18th at the Grand Hotel in Salem. Here participants will learn about current legislative issues and build confidence in their ability to tell their own stories to their legislators the following day. While this dinner and training are optional, we highly encourage everyone to attend.
If you come for the dinner and training, and live more than 30 minutes away, HFO will pay for an overnight stay in the Grand Hotel on Sunday evening so you wake up fresh and ready to go straight to the Capitol the next day. Registration for the dinner and training, and overnight at the Grand Hotel is required by January 19th.
On Monday February 19th (which also happens to be President's Day) our group meets in Room HR50 in the Capitol at 8:30 AM where you will get information on your scheduled appointments with your specific elected officials. Between your visits to your Senator and Representative you will be able to look around the capitol, perhaps take a capitol tour on your own, talk with old friends and make new friends, and help educate people who pass by HFO's information table in the Galleria area behind the Rotunda. As is our tradition, we serve cake and ice cream from our table in the Galleria later in the afternoon and enjoy getting legislators and their staff members to stop by for this treat and more conversation. It's a wonderful day to get acquainted with your government and your elected officials, and help educate others about your concerns as a person or family living with bleeding disorders.
Lunch will be provided. A day parking pass to use at meters near the capitol is also provided upon request. Depending upon your specific appointments with your elected officials, the day generally ends by 4:00 or 5:00 PM.
Registration for the day at the capitol including appointments with your elected officials is required by February 2nd. Registration for the day at the capitol without appointments with your elected officials, but including lunch, is required by February 15th. If you do not register by these dates, but still wish to come to the capitol, please do! We just will not be able to assure appointments or lunch if you don't meet the deadlines. We still would love to see you.
